In practice (1970 – 1987) he was a member of Izard Weston and Company, Watts and Paterson and the Crown Law Office. In April 1987 Justice Keane was appointed a district court judge and Taxation Review Authority. He was seconded to the Law Commission as a Law Commissioner in May 2001 and appointed a High Court judge in October 2003. Justice Keane is based at the Auckland High Court.
